Les Misérables
Tel Aviv, Israel - 1987 VOB
David "Dudu" Fisher (Jean Valjean), Riki Gal (Fantine)
Rare 2:1 trading ratio. Dudu Fisher was going to be Valjean in the symphonic recording instead of Gary Morris.
The production seems to be quite different. Image is blue-ish and not very defined, it's hard to make people out in wider shots, but considering its age, it's not too bad.

Martin Smith, Clive Carter, Kathleen Rowe McAllen, Jayne Draper, Maurice Clark (u/s Marius)
Pro-shot. Stationary camera. No obstructions. Full stage shot (cuts the top of the scenary) with some generation loss; a little dark, but very good sound and a great historic video!

Appears to be pro or tripod shot for 1988 - 1990 production. The sound is very wavering from generation loss, zooms and wides follow the action well, but it's often very dark.

Horrible video quality, audio is fine. Skips from midway through At The End of the Day to I Dreamed a Dream, sometimes films the ceiling or is unfocused. Still, it's nice to see what the show was like before the cuts.

Geronimo Rauch (Jean Valjean), Tam Mutu (Javert), Sierra Boggess (Fantine), Samantha Dorsey (Cosette), Jonny Purchase (Marius), Danielle Hope (Éponine), Liam Tamne (Enjolras), Adam Linstead (Bishop/Grantaire)
Amazing quality and cast. Filmed very close to the stage, you can see the conductor's head most of the time, which is pretty cool. Runs for about 24 minutes. Scenes: "Valjean's Soliloquy", "Fantine's Death", "The Confrontation", "Stars", "Bring Him Home", "Epilogue"

A 21st century Les Mis that brings the story to your doorstep and suddenly isn't about a far away 19th century France, but actually reflects the world around you. As, you know, the whole point. A wonderful and diverse cast, and really interesting production. Video is good, but in weird proportions, so when opened in the normal widescreen format it's rather pixelated. Nothing too horrible, and definitely worth a watch!

A lovely capture overall with no obstruction. Look Down is mostly blacked out and there are a couple quick dropouts during The Bishop scene and Lovely Ladies, but the show is otherwise fully intact. There is also some washout in high contrast wide shots. It’s filmed in 16:9, with a mix of wides, mediums, and close-ups.
